Saddle Guide

Across disciplines, body types, and riding styles, one thing is certain: saddle fit matters. Introducing the fizik Saddle Guide, an informative manual to help you find the right fit for where and how you ride, based on expert insight and key comfort and performance factors to help you go further, faster—fully supported.

THE RIGHT FIT GOES FAR

Selecting the right saddle is an important and personal step towards improving overall performance, comfort, and ride quality. Through this simple guide, we will walk you through the necessary steps to determine the ideal shape, width, materials, and more to match your next saddle with your unique needs—reinforced with expert insight from experienced bike fitters, team managers, industry leaders, and professional riders.

RIDING STYLES

What kind of bike do you ride? We design specific saddles for every riding style and to complement the ride quality of your bike. Because of this, determining intended use is an excellent starting point for narrowing down saddle choice.

PLATFORMS

Beyond style and shape, the next consideration to take into account is the saddle platform. The platform is the structural part of the saddle, consisting of the shell and rail, which we offer in four distinct combinations, ranging from the lightest and stiffest to the most versatile and affordable.

SHAPES

Saddles come in many shapes and sizes, but they can all simply be categorized into four main shape groups. Learn the traits of each shape and what they are designed for. Which one sounds like what you need?

Saddles in this group have an abrupt nose-to-wing transition, resulting in a longer nose. Additionally, they also have a flatter profile. This provides more inner-leg clearance as well as multiple comfortable fore-to-aft sitting positions. T-shape saddles give riders the ability to easily alter their sitting position during the ride, moving towards the nose when adopting a more forward, aerodynamic riding position and moving back when riding more upright.

Saddles: Antares, Arione.

These saddles flare from the nose to rear more gradually, like an arrowhead or a pear. They usually have a waved side profile, too. The sloping tail cradles the lower back while the gradual taper assists the rider with pelvic rotation, bringing them more forward. Because of these factors, V-shape saddles suit riders in need of extra support and comfort as well as those who enjoy long-distance riding.

Saddles: Aliante.

With a much shorter nose, these saddles provide a more defined area for where to sit, typically in combination with generous ischial support. As a result, riders are more planted on the seat and move around less, prioritizing stability and better weight distribution. This is our most versatile saddle shape, which is why we offer it in many options to suit different riding disciplines and styles.

Saddles: Vento Argo, Tempo Argo, Terra Argo, Argo X, Aeris Sd, Aidon, Ridon, Terra Alpaca, Gravita Alpaca.

These saddles, as the name suggests, have a nose that’s split into two halves, providing support to the pubic rami as well as the greatest soft tissue pressure relief when sitting all the way forward on the tip of the saddle. They are specifically designed for long-distance triathletes that need firm support and balance for long hours spent in the aero riding position.

Saddles: Aeris Ld.

PADDING TECH

Padding acts as the direct interface between a rider and their bicycle. From the most minimal, featherweight tech to the most progressive, reliable padding for hours spent on the saddle to our innovative Adaptive 3D-printed cushioning that’s revolutionized comfort and performance, learn more about our various padding options below.

SIZES

Once you’ve identified your ideal saddle, the final step is to pick the right size. Most of our saddles are available in two widths. Saddle size is primarily influenced by sitting position on the bike, something that can be determined with a thorough bike fitting. Without this process, however, sit-bone distance measurements can also act as a good saddle-size indicator. For this, you can use our dedicated in-store tool together with our saddle size charts—or you can use our online saddle finder at home, and we’ll help recommend the right size for each of our saddle models.
